New renderings from the architects
The architecture firms working on the library renovations provided an update at FONEL's May meeting. In case you missed it, here's a PDF of the presentation they gave.
The renovation process for the interior of the Northeast branch is underway.
Good news, neighbors: our library is soon to undergo a massive renovation. The DC government has allotted $10 million to renovate the interior of the building, following an exterior renovation that was completed in 2010. You can read about the renovation plans on the DC Library's website here.

The Hill Rag has a good summary of the changes to come here. Friends of the Northeast Library is very aware of neighbors' concerns about the renovations. We all want to make sure the changes help the library better meet the community's needs and preserve the unique character of our beloved neighborhood landmark. We also know many of you are concerned about how the community will be served while the renovations are underway and about the impact of the construction on the neighborhood. To help us all better understand how the renovations will unfold and what the final result will be, we are planning a meeting at which library officials, those involved in the design and construction process, and all concerned citizens can meet and discuss the changes to come.
Right now, plans call for roughly six months of design and review work - starting in March 2012 - with hopes for the actual construction at Northeast to start by September 1st. Once the physical construction starts, the branch will be closed for roughly 13 months. During that time, patrons will be encouraged to visit other DCPL branches at Southeast or Southwest.
The Friends will post regular updates about the design concepts here so check back often.
